As you might have read in last weeks blogpost I gave you a few hints about a new secret project I have been working on, with a picture which contained books, shells, beads and some crochet. Today’s blogpost will give you some more information, to explain that weird picture 🙂

Last year – yes that’s how long this has taken to evolve – I read a book called ‘All the light we cannot see’ by Anthony Doerr. It’s about a boy and a girl in wartime France and Germany. I know this sounds very cliche, but if you have read it, you will know it is about so much more.

Zoals je hebt kunnen lezen in de blogpost van vorige week, gaf ik je een paar hints over een nieuw geheim project waar ik mee bezig was, met een foto waarin boeken, schelpen, kralen en wat haakwerk te zien was. De blogpost van vandaag zal je wat meer informatie geven, om die rare foto te verduidelijken. 

Vorig jaar – ja, dat is hoe lang ik al bezig ben – heb ik een boek gelezen, genaamd ‘Als je het licht niet kunt zien’ van Anthony Doerr. Het gaat over een jongen en meisje die leven tijdens de tweede wereldoorlog in Frankrijk en Duitsland. Ik weet het, dit klinkt ontzettend cliche, maar als je dit boek hebt gelezen, dan weet je dat het gaat om zoveel meer. 

Here is a little excerpt to give you an idea:

“The ocean. The ocean! Right in front of her! So close all this time. It sucks and booms and splashes and rumbles; it shifts and dilates and falls over itself; the labyrinth of Saint-Malo has opened onto a portal of sound larger than anything she has ever experienced. Larger than the Jardin des Plantes, than the Seine, larger than the grandest galleries of the museum. She did not imagine it properly; she did not comprehend the scale.”

The rich prose inspired me for so many new ideas that I couldn’t fit it all in one pattern. So, I’m making a whole crochet collection inspired by each important place in the book, called the ‘Read With Me collection’. For example: I will take you along to the ‘Hotel of Bees’, with it’s beautiful old fresco’s and fine wood carved doors, and we will wander through the vast building of the ‘National Natural History Museum’, to name a few places. Each pattern will have its own quote to accompany it and inspire you while crocheting. Sounds good?

As of now, I have one pattern almost ready, which will be published in about two weeks. I’m also working on a new pattern, but that one is still in its ‘crochet something-don’t like it-frog it-repeat-stage’ 🙂 At the end of the collection I hope that I’ve inspired you to pick up the book, and of course that you will have created beautiful things with the patterns!

De rijke taal heeft me geïnspireerd voor zoveel nieuwe ideeën dat ik dit niet in een patroon kon gieten. Dus maak ik een hele (gehaakte) collectie geïnspireerd op elke belangrijke plek in het boek, genaamd de ‘Read with me Collection’ (lees met mij collectie). Bijvoorbeeld: ik neem je mee naar de ‘Hotel of Bees’, met zijn prachtige oude fresco’s en houtsnijwerk. We zullen dwalen door het enorme gebouw van het Nationaal Natuurhistorisch Museum, om maar een paar plekken te noemen. Elk patroon zal zijn eigen quote hebben om je te inspireren tijdens het haken. Klinkt goed? 

Zoals het er nu voor staat, heb ik mijn eerste patroon bijna klaar, welke gepubliceerd zal worden over ongeveer twee weken. Ik ben ook bezig met een nieuw patroon, maar die is nog steeds in zijn ‘iets haken-nee toch niet mooi- weer uithalen- herhaal’ -fase 🙂 Aan het einde van de collectie hoop ik dat ik je heb kunnen inspireren om het boek te lezen, en natuurlijk, dat je prachtige dingen hebt gecreëerd met de patronen!
