As I am writing this, I am sitting in my pajama’s, celebrating the start of my Christmas holiday, which feels rather like a Sunday that lasts for two weeks, I thought it was time for a blogpost to look back on my crochet year. Because there’s lots to look back on!

Nu ik zo dit schrijf, terwijl ik in mijn pyjama zit om het begin van mijn kerstvakantie te vieren, die meer voelt als een twee weken durende zondag, dacht ik dat het wel tijd was voor een blogpost om terug te kijken op mijn haakjaar. Er is zeker genoeg om naar terug te kijken!  

February: Becoming a Scheepjes Blogger / Februari: Ik werd een Scheepjes Blogger 

In February I became a Scheepjes Blogger! How exciting this was <3 Ever since I joined the group, I feel so much more validated as a designer and they continue to inspire me. I feel it is the best decision I have ever made in my craft life and I wouldn’t want to have it any other way.

In februari werd ik een Scheepjes Blogger! Hoe geweldig was dit <3 Sinds ik bij de groep ben gekomen voel ik me zo veel meer gewaardeerd als ontwerper en ze blijven me steeds inspireren om nieuwe dingen te maken. Ik denk dat het de beste keus is geweest die ik voor mijn creatieve leven heb gemaakt en ik zou het ook niet anders meer willen. 

March: The begin of the Inspirational Hexies blog serie / Maart: het begin van de Inspirational Hexies blog serie

The start of something wonderful. A great series to pour in all my inspiration and creativity <3 No one knew what this would become yet or where it was going, but I saw people react to the weekly blogposts with a lot of positivity and it truly warmed my heart to feel the trust in me! Het begin van iets moois. Een serie waarin ik al mijn inspiratie en creativiteit in kwijt kon <3 Niemand wist aan het begin nog wat het zou worden of waar het heen zou gaan, maar ik zag de positieve reacties op de wekelijkse blogposts en het heeft mij goed gedaan dat er vertrouwd werd op mijn kunnen! April: The Forest Valley Shawl and the Sashiko Project bag gets published / April: De Forest Valley Shawl en de Sashiko Projecttas worden gepubliceerd

My first ever Scheepjes-published pattern gets released as a YARN Afterparty <3 It felt really special to see my own design in print! You can get your own copy of the Forest Valley Shawl on Ravelry. If you want to read more about the inspiration first, you can click here.

Mijn allereerste patroon die door Scheepjes is uitgebracht als een YARN Afterparty <3 Het voelde erg speciaal om mijn eigen ontwerp afgedrukt te zien! Je kunt het patroon van de Forest Valley Shawl vinden op Ravelry. Als je eerst meer wilt lezen over de inspiratie, klik dan hier.

And of course I don’t sit idle! In the same month the Sashiko Project Bag also gets published for free on my blog <3 The bag is inspired by the ancient mending technique called ‘sashiko’ which is really simple, but very effective!

En natuurlijk zit ik niet stil! In dezelfde maand wordt ook de Sashiko Projecttas uitgebracht als gratis patroon op mijn blog <3 De tas is geinspireerd door de eeuwenoude herstel-techniek ‘sashiko’ die erg simpel is om te doen, maar zeker effectief! 

June: The Sea of Flames Shawl gets published / Juni: De Sea of Flames shawl wordt uitgebracht

For the Read-With-Me-Collection I made a new design inspired by the Diamond in the book ‘All the light we Cannot see’ by Anthony Doerr* (the same book that inspired the Hotel of Bees shawl). I used 11 Scheepjes Stone Washed and River Washed colors and blended them into a gradient from red to blue (just like the diamond). Voor de Read-With-Me-Collectie heb ik een nieuw ontwerp gemaakt, die geinspireerd is op de diamant in het boek ‘Als je het licht niet kunt zien’ van Anthony Doerr* (hetzelfde boek die ook de Hotel of Bees shawl heeft geinspireerd). Ik heb 11 kleuren gebruikt van Scheepjes Stone Washed en River Washed en die heb ik gemengd in een kleurverloop van rood naar blauw (net zoals de diamant). August: My first Read-With-Me CAL with the History of Trees shawl / Mijn eerste Read-With-Me CAL met de History of Trees shawl

This CAL was so exciting! It was unlike any other CAL I’ve done before, both in size and in creativity! I’ve hosted a read-along next to the CAL (with the book ‘Barkskins’ by Annie Proulx*) and also made weekly inspirational posts with a tree-theme. It was amazing to see so many people actively posting in the CAL group, showing their own trees and stories. It was the most fun I’ve ever had hosting a CAL and I can’t wait to do it again next year <3 You can find the History of Trees shawl pattern here.

Deze CAL was zo ontzettend leuk! Het was anders dan elke andere CAL die ik tot nu toe heb gedaan, zowel in grootte als in creativiteit! Ik heb een leesclub gehouden naast de CAL (met het boek ‘Schorshuiden’ van Annie Proulx*), maar ook heb ik elke week inspiratieposts geplaatst die een bomen-thema hadden. Het was geweldig om zo veel mensen actief te zien posten in de CAL groep. Mensen die hun eigen bomen lieten zien en hun verhalen deelden. Ik heb nog nooit zoveel plezier gehad met een CAL en ik kan dan ook niet wachten om het volgend jaar nog eens te doen <3 Je kunt het patroon voor de History of Trees Shawl hier vinden. 

September: The Scheepjes Bloggers days / September: De Scheepjes Bloggers dagen

How can I not mention the Scheepjes Bloggers days! It was one of the highlights of my year <3 It was amazing to meet the other bloggers, take in their creative energy, talk to likeminded souls about what we love most, get inspired at Yarndale, see the beautiful countryside of England and so much more <3 It was something I wouldn’t have wanted to miss for the world! Hoe kan ik niet vertellen over de Scheepjes Bloggers Dagen! Het behoort tot een van de hoogtepunten van mijn jaar <3 Het was geweldig om de andere bloggers te ontmoeten, om hun creatieve energie te voelen, om met gelijkgestemden te praten over waar we van houden, om geinspireerd te raken door Yarndale, om de prachtige natuur van Engeland te zien en zo veel meer <3 Ik had het niet willen missen! Je kunt er alles over lezen in deze blogpost. 

October: Publishing the Maple Leaf Cardigan and my own yarn / Oktober: De Maple Leaf Cardigan komt uit en ook mijn eigen garen

Somewhere in the beginning of 2018 when we did the shoot for the Sea of Flames shawl in a local park I was mesmerized by a Japanese maple tree and I knew I wanted to design something with it. Well, fast forward a few months and the Maple Leaf Cardigan is published : ) As part of the Poetry Collection I’ve written a haiku to accompany it. Ergens aan het begin van 2018, toen we een shoot deden voor de Sea of Flames in een lokaal park zag ik opeens een prachtige Japanse esdoorn en ik wist gelijk dat ik daar iets mee wilde ontwerpen. Nou, een paar maanden later was het al werkelijkheid want in oktober publiceerde ik de Maple Leaf Cardigan : ) Als onderdeel van de Poetry Collection schreef ik er ook een haiku bij. December: The reveal of the Inspirational Hexies Blanket / December: De onthulling van de Inspirational Hexies deken

After 32 weekly blogposts with a different Hexie each time, the end-result was revealed: A stunning blanket full of stories, music, books, movies, nature, crochet and other crafts <3 It turned out exactly as I imagined it and I hope it brought you much inspiration and will continue to do so.
