Inspiration/Inspiratie

The Cardigan wrap is inspired by the setting sun and all the beautiful colors it can create, almost like the sky is a watercolor painting. I wanted to try to capture this image into a wrap by blending multiple colors. As you can see above, I’ve tried to work the colors in a ‘natural’ order, just like you would get if the sun was setting.
De Cardigan Wrap is geïnspireerd door de ondergaande zon en alle prachtige kleuren die dat met zich mee kan brengen, alsof de lucht een aquarel schilderij is. Ik wilde proberen om dit gezicht om te zetten in een wrap door meerdere kleuren te ‘mengen’. Zoals je hierboven kunt zien, heb ik de kleuren in een ‘natuurlijke’ volgorde in de wrap geplaatst, net zoals het eruit zou zien als je naar de ondergaande zon kijkt.

I also wanted it to be multi-purpose, an item you can wear in different ways so you can wear it throughout the year. The armholes are intentionally not in the middle, so you can vary with different styles: wear it with the armholes high for a long back, or wear it with the armholes low for a shawl collared cardigan. See below for examples.
Ik wilde ook dat het een veelzijdig item zou zijn, zodat je het door het jaar heen op verschillende manieren kunt dragen. De armsgaten zitten express niet in het midden, waardoor je kunt variëren met verschillende stylen: je kunt de armsgaten hoog dragen voor een langere achterkant, of de armsgaten laag dragen voor een vest met sjaalkraag. Zie hieronder voor voorbeelden.

The Pattern / Het Patroon

The pattern will be available for free on my blog, or you can choose to buy a PDF version for a small fee.

The pattern consists of: / Het patroon bestaat uit:

  • A written pattern in US terms and Dutch / Een geschreven patroon in Engels (US) en Nederlands
  • Tutorial photos for the important details and for the joining instructions / Tutorial foto’s voor de belangrijke details en voor de instructies van het aan elkaar maken
  • A chart for the main square pattern / Een haakdiagram voor het haakpatroon van het vierkantje
  • A schematic for where to place each colored square / Een schema voor de plaatsing van elk gekleurd vierkantje
  • The design is part of my Poetry Collection, so it will be accompanied by a poem, in this case a Tanka. / Het ontwerp is onderdeel van de Poetry Collectie, dus het gaat vergezeld van een gedicht, in dit geval een Tanka.

Design details / Ontwerp details

  • The squares are made with a two color linen stitch / De vierkantjes worden gemaakt met een twee-kleurige linnen steek
  • The squares are joined with a variation on the matress stitch, so the coloring of the join is invisible and does not take away from the coloring of the squares / De vierkantjes worden aan elkaar gemaakt met een variatie op de matrassteek. Dit is onzichtbaar waardoor het niet opvalt tussen de mooie kleuren van de vierkantjes.
  • The wrap is finished with a multicolored border to make the most of your left-overs. / De wrap wordt afgemaakt met een meerkleurige rand zodat je het meeste van je garenrestjes kunt opmaken.
  • The wrap measures 135cm/54” long and 70cm/28” wide after blocking. It is fairly easy making it larger or smaller by adding squares or leaving them out. / De wrap meet 135cm lang en 70cm wijd na blocken. Het is redelijk makkelijk om de wrap groter of kleiner te maken door vierkantjes toe te voegen of ze weg te laten.
